Apple Co-Founder: Admiring the Androids

Though, in many cases, Apple and the Androids are having a neck to neck battle in the market, Apple seems to be calm and upbeat that they still have the most lauded smart phones and digital products. But just recently, Steve Wozniak, the Apple co-founder, concedes Androids’ advantages over Apple which is quite a strange move for the Apple Corporation considering their current downfall against Samsung’s grabbing the top spot as for the largest distributor of smart phones worldwide.

In an interview with the second boss, Woz has compared their position today with what Microsoft and Macintosh first had. Mac has first entered the world then Microsoft follows embracing the market and loosely getting away from Macintosh’ users count. Now, Apple faces its rival, Google’s Android, which just recently topped the charts slashing Apple in the number two spot. “My primary phone is the iPhone. I love the beauty of it. But I wish it did all the things my Android does, I really do.” Woz added that voice commands work better in Androids and that their built-in navigation system is one advantage too. Androids, on the other perspective, really aren’t simple to use, but not that complicated to, “if you’re willing to do the work to understand it a little bit, well I hate to say it, but there’s more available in some ways,” Woz said.

Apple fans may have the grudges over these Google’s Androids, but not Steve Wozniak. He and the head of the Android project, Andy Rubin, were old friends and were once working with Andy. Woz respected Andy, and so is the project.

Microsoft’s goal was to take hold of the market over Macintosh, and it did well because it licensed its software to different and many hardware makers grabbing the larger share of buyers from Apple’s huddle, while Mac only works on the hardware that’s been provided exclusively for its existence. Now, Apple faces the same problem as it’s been theorized that Android can also work in iOS (Apple’s Operating System). Because of Apple’s exclusive OS feature and Androids’ flexibility, there will be a big chance of history repeating itself.

The other addendum for the Apple’s sad story is that on Microsoft’s case, applications are updated and created longer, while for the Apple-Androids battle, apps do otherwise and actually, they might even have the edge.

Siri, a talking mobile virtual assistant and Apple 4’s latest feature, is also quite a leap backward against Androids’ ones.  “I have a lower success rate with Siri than I do with the voice built into the Android, and that bothers me,” Woz says. “I’ll be saying, over and over again in my car, ‘Call the Lark Creek Steak House,’ and I can’t get it done. Then I pick up my Android, say the same thing, and it’s done. Plus I get navigation. Android is way ahead on that.”

But Woz never failed to still endorse Apple in the free market being one of the saints of the Apple digital gadgets. “The people I recommend the iPhone 4S for are the ones who are already in the Mac world, because it’s so compatible, and people who are just scared of computers altogether and don’t want to use them. The iPhone is the least frightening thing. For that kind of person who is scared of complexity, well, here’s a phone that is simple to use and does what you need it to do,” he closed.
